Feeding the Older Horse

Senior Horse Feed
A horse's inability to properly chew hay may lead to quidding, choking, and of course, weight loss. Once you
notice these signs it may be time to change your horse's feed in order to keep it at a healthy weight.
We have switched our senior, smooth-mouthed 28 year old mare from first cut, to second cut hay and decided to feed her Blue Seal Vintage⢠Horse
Nuggets for grain. These are extruded nuggets specially formulated for the senior horse. The nuggets are a
pressure-cooked blend of grains, forages, vitamins and minerals shaped into highly palatable, fortified,
dust-free nuggets and offer several advantages over conventional sweet feeds and pellets, such as:
- Dust free for less risk of respiratory problems
- Slower intake for less risk of colic
- Improved digestibility
We like the Blue Seal Vintage Horse feeds because they contain:
- Stabilized rice bran
- Chelated trace minerals
- Added B-Vitamins (including Biotin)
- Vitamins C and E
- Consistent "fixed-fixed" formulas
... and are affordably priced! We also provide our senior horse with hay-stretcher pellets, especially during the winter months, when plenty
of hay is essential for staying warm and plump.
